Describing Ongoing Actions & States

Describe what someone is currently doing or a continuous state using the te-form + いる.

You're observing people in a café and describing the scene to a friend. "Look, that person is reading a book, and the other person is writing in a notebook. What are they doing now?"

to put in / insert

Group 2 verb

A simpler verb type that always ends in る. To change the form, just drop the る and add a new ending — like 食べる (eat) becomes 食べます.

出す (だす)

to take out / submit

Group 1 verb

The most common verb type. The ending sound changes depending on how you use it — like how 飲む (drink) becomes 飲みます in polite speech.

着る (きる)

to wear (upper body)

Group 2 verb

A simpler verb type that always ends in る. To change the form, just drop the る and add a new ending — like 食べる (eat) becomes 食べます.
