Actions Without Doing Something Else: ~ないで
Describing an action that is performed without doing another action, or a state of not doing something.
You're explaining to a friend why you couldn't meet them yesterday. You say you had to go straight home after work without stopping anywhere (途中、どこにも寄らないで), and later (後で) realized you forgot to reply (返事するのを忘れた) to their message.
