Receiving Favors: Expressing Gratitude for Actions

Understand how to express that someone has done a favor or action for you, and use verbs related to receiving help, invitations, and introductions.

My classmate helped me a lot with my homework, and because of them, I was saved. Later, they introduced me to a Japanese study group and even contacted the group leader for me. I'm very grateful for their kindness.

Group 2 verb

A simpler verb type that always ends in る. To change the form, just drop the る and add a new ending — like 食べる (eat) becomes 食べます.

助かる (たすかる)

to be saved / helped

Group 1 verb

The most common verb type. The ending sound changes depending on how you use it — like how 飲む (drink) becomes 飲みます in polite speech.

招待する (しょうたいする)

to invite

Irregular verb

One of two special verbs — する (to do) or 来る (to come). They follow their own unique patterns that you just have to memorize.
