Using が to highlight the subject; discussing general family members and specific student types.

You are showing photos of your family to a classmate. You point to a picture and explain, 'This is my older sister,' then clarify, 'My younger brother is a university student.'

kazoku wa gonin desu. — There are five people in my family.
家族と一緒に住んでいます。
kazoku to issho ni sunde imasu. — I live together with my family.
家族の写真を見せてください。
kazoku no shashin o misete kudasai. — Please show me a photo of your family.
両親 (りょうしん) ryoushin

parents

両親は日本にいます。
ryoushin wa nihon ni imasu. — My parents are in Japan.
私の両親はやさしいです。
watashi no ryoushin wa yasashii desu. — My parents are kind.
両親は大人です。
ryoushin wa otona desu. — My parents are adults.
兄弟 (きょうだい) kyoudai

siblings

Noun

A word for a person, place, thing, or idea.

兄弟は三人います。
kyoudai wa sannin imasu. — I have three siblings.
兄弟はいますか。
kyoudai wa imasu ka. — Do you have siblings?
私の兄弟は大学生です。
watashi no kyoudai wa daigakusei desu. — My siblings are university students.
