Here, There, and Everywhere

Using ここ・そこ・あそこ to indicate locations; asking 'where?', 'when?', and 'why?'.

You're meeting a friend in a new city. You call them to say, 'I'm here (ここです),' and ask 'Where are you?' (どこですか?). You might also ask 'When will you arrive?' (いつ来ますか?) or 'Why are you late?' (なぜ遅いですか?).

あそこに駅があります。
asoko ni eki ga arimasu — There is a station over there.
あそこは学校です。
asoko wa gakkou desu — Over there is a school.
あそこで会いましょう。
asoko de aimashou — Let's meet over there.
